Environmental Management System

Our Environmental Management System (EMS) is certified to the international environmental management systems standard, ISO14001.

ISO14001 describes the process of environmental management as a cyclic model of continuous improvement. Our continuous improvement framework is based around the following five fundamental EMS components:

Environmental Policy
Our Environmental Policy details our commitment, intentions and principles in relation to environmental performance. The policy provides organisational direction and a framework for action through the establishment of environmental objectives and targets.

Planning
Planning involves systematically reviewing those activities which have the potential to create or do environmental risk, identifying and maintaining currency on legal and other requirements to which we subscribe, and setting environmental performance objectives in line with our Environmental Policy.

Implementation and operation
The implementation and operation elements of the system establish processes for:

  • defining required roles, responsibilities and authorities;
  • implementing relevant training;
  • establishing internal and external communication mechanisms;
  • ensuring that environmental management documentation is accessible and current;
  • establishing control of relevant operations, defining requirements of contractors and suppliers; and
  • developing an appropriate emergency response capability.

Checking and corrective action
We undertake routine monitoring to verify environmental performance and compliance against regulatory and other requirements, corporate commitments and continuous improvement in and around the operations.

Management review
The purpose of the review is to assess the effectiveness of the system and to determine whether any changes in policy, objectives, methods or philosophy are considered necessary to meet current or future needs.
