Seven new apprentices and two new trainees start at the Tarong and Tarong North Power Stations
The Apprenticeship and Trainee program provides hands-on experience while completing qualifications through TAFE
The program is an important employment pathway for local students looking to start a career in the energy industry
Stanwell has welcomed seven new local apprentices and two trainees to Tarong power stations as part of Stanwell’s annual Apprenticeship and Trainee Program.
The new apprentice recruits will get hands-on training as Mechanical Fitters, Electricians and Boilermakers and the Trainees will get experience in Site Services and Supply Chain operations.
The program is designed to give jobseekers the skills and hands on experience needed for a successful career in the energy industry while gaining their qualifications through TAFE.
Over the course of the program, Mechanical Fitter Apprentices will rotate every six months through six different maintenance teams, while Electrical Instrumentation Apprentices will gain exposure to both the Electrical and Instrumentation teams over a five-year period. The traineeship lasts two years.
Stanwell General Manager Southern Generation Mick Joy highlighted the importance of skilled tradespeople in the day-to-day success of operations.
“This is a program close to Stanwell’s heart and we are so proud to offer on the job skills and training to locals who want careers in the energy industry,” Mr Joy said.
“The Stanwell Apprentice and Trainee Program is a fantastic avenue for individuals to kick-start their careers while acquiring valuable industry experience.
“The new recruits will be exposed to a wide range of real-world scenarios, developing new skills and being mentored by our valued and experienced people across the power stations.
“Just like past apprentices and trainees were, with 91 having come through Tarong’s doors in the past five years.
If you’re considering an Apprenticeship with Stanwell, applications for the 2026 intake will be opening later this year.
