First Nations Scholarship Opens

Applications are now open for Stanwell’s inaugural South Burnett First Nations Scholarship for university study.
The scholarship is open to First Nations people who reside in the South Burnett and are studying (or planning to study) full time, are a recent school-leaver, can demonstrate service to community, and have started university studies or are due to start studies this year.
The support is to assist while living and studying away from the region, and the study should relate to the energy sector in some way.
The potential fields of study could include Engineering, Health and Safety, Environment, Human Resources, Finance, Science, Business, Procurement, Communication and Marketing, Legal Studies etc.
Stanwell General Manager Southern Generation Mick Joy said this was the first time Stanwell had offered a First Nations Scholarship in the South Burnett.
“Supporting university study that will potentially lead to a career in the energy industry is an important way for Stanwell to implement pathways which help to deliver meaningful outcomes for our local First Nations people,” Mr Joy said.
“We’ve worked closely with the Wakka Wakka Native Title Aboriginal Corporation Board, Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council, Cherbourg Elders Advisory Group and the education community to bring this scholarship to life.
“We can’t wait to help support our first South Burnett First Nations scholarship recipient in their chosen career path.”
The scholarship includes $10,000 assistance a year for up to four years, a mentoring program, vacation work opportunities, and possible employment with Stanwell at the end of study.
Applications are now open and will close on Monday, March 24, 2025.
